Satori 2002 Staff
Here is a partial list of staff that
worked at Satori Camp during the summer of 2002. For more detailed
bios, please click on the name you're interested in.
Directors:

Mike
Cantlon - Satori Camp Co-founder and Co-director. Mike
is a teacher for Spokane School District 81's gifted education
program. He is also an adjunct faculty member of the Education
Department at Eastern Washington University.
- Dr. Bruce Mitchell - Satori Camp Co-founder and Co-director.
Dr. Mitchell is a retired professor for Eastern Washington University's
Department of Education. He is a noted researcher and author in
areas of creativity, gifted education and multicultural education.
- Sara Maleki
- Satori Camp Assistant Director. Sara has been with the camp
for nine of its nineteen years: first as a camper, then as a counselor,
and now as Assistant Director. She is a graduate of EWU and holds
a B.A. in Business MIS.
Counsellors
- Satori Camp counsellors are predominantly certified teachers
and students currently in an education program. We also have several
former campers who have worked their way into camp counsellor
positions through our Counsellor-in-Training (CIT)
program.
Instructors
- Satori class instructors come from backgrounds as diverse as
the classes they teach. Most are area professionals and experts
in their field, as well as Junior and Senior High School teachers
and Eastern Washington University professors.
Featured instructors include:
- Tyler Burnet
- Professional dance teacher and drama instructor at WWU; performs
with the Dead Parrots Society group.
- Bryan Bogue - Divides his time as a member of the percussion
section for the Spokane Symphony, Moko Jumbie, and his newly formed
quartet, for/4.
- Nathan Collins
- Graduate student in Physics at MIT.
- Tammy Hovren - Teacher in the East Valley School District.
- John Hagney - Teacher in Spokane School District 81;
adjunct faculty at SFCC and EWU; 1997 Presidential Scholar Distinguished
Teacher.
- Dr. Sidney Kasuga - Professor of Biology at Eastern Washington
University; noted researcher in the field of Immunology.
- Jeff Kent - Teacher for Spokane School District 81; currently
serving on the Spokane Arts Commission.
- Heather McKeen- Professor at
Eastern Washington University.
- Chris Mathieson
- Currently working on a post-bachelaureate diploma in Cognitive
Science at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada; Chief Editor
of the Canadian
Undergraduate Journal of Cognitive Science.
- Bruce McDavis - 6th Degree black belt in Goju-ryu Karate;
has been teaching karate since 1975 throughout the Inland Northwest.
- Paul Raymond - Principal Percussion with the Spokane
Symphony Orchestra; plays in the Caribbean group Moko Jumbie,
and the Brazilian jazz group Desafindo.
- Lynnae Sowers
- Current graduate student at EWU; 5 yrs field experience in archaeological
excavation; many conference presentations on archaeological ethnobotony
research throughout the nation.
- Brannon Zahand
- Software test engineer at Microsoft; holds both MOUS and MCSE
certifications.
- James Zahand - 31-year business career, he has held research,
product development, sales, and management positions in two Fortune
500 companies.
