About the SCAA

As you might have figured out, there is now an entity called the Satori Camp Alumni Association. We're still in the formative stages; the constitution is still being written, we're still applying for non-profit status and we're generally still organizing ourselves. There's lots of work still to do. This page is the first step in creating an entire "Alumni" section for the Satori Camp website. Eventually, you'll be able to find updates on individual alumni, upcoming events listings as well as further information on the various campaigns the Alumni Association is undertaking.

This site will be continually updated, so check back here often.

The Great Alumni Search

One of the main things we're focussing on right now is trying to track down as many former Satori campers as we can. It's really not an easy task when all we've got to go on are names and cities of residence (that are usually 5 or 10 years old). Unfortunately, Eastern Washington University accidentally destroyed all the old camp records a few years back. We've got complete lists of the campers from the last three years and we know the names of the campers who attended in '87, '89, '91 and '92. (Old brochures used to list the campers and hometowns from the previous year).

Although we've gotten lucky in a few cases, we're forced to rely mostly on the generosity and pack-rat instincts of people like you, hoping that you might have kept track of a friend or two from camp, or if we're really lucky then maybe you saved your old address book. If you've got ANY information on ANY former camper, PLEASE send it to us immediately at alumni@satoricamp.org. If you don't get an acknowledgment from us within a week, please send it again. (It's a slightly flaky email service, unfortunately...)

A slightly out-of-date alumni list is available here (be careful if you're on a slow connection, it's almost 500k!) if you want to see who's in our database and what information we still need on them. If someone's missing, tell us. If you can fill in a blank, tell us. Even if the information you have is 5 or 10 or 15 years old, it's still a lead that we can try to follow up on.

Camp Update

As an alumni, you're probably wondering what Satori Camp has been up to these long years since you've been a camper.

Well, Satori is still going strong; this is it's 18th summer in operation! Mike Cantlon and Dr. Bruce Mitchell are both still running the camp (although Mike's having his 50th birthday this summer!) and campers still seem to be having just as much fun as when we were campers.

The Medieval Feast that first happened in 1993 is now an annual event. The Thursday evening dance is still the most looked-forward-to evening event and campers are still running into trees playing Capture The Flag. Tawanka food is still the norm, although we've been eating it everywhere EXCEPT in Tawanka Commons the past few years. (Those silly Seahawks just keep having their training camp during Satori...)

There have been changes, though. This year, for the first time, Skit Night is being replaced with a secret alternate activity. (Some campers love the skits, some hate them... we'll try something new and see how it goes...). The camp is offering more classes this year than it ever has before (24) and more of those classes are being taught by alumni. Computer Programming, Dance, Choir and Media Literacy are just a few examples of the alumni-taught classes being offered this year. Almost half of the counseling staff are former campers (when you include the assistant counselors).

Despite all the changes, though, the Satori Spirit remains strong; new campers are still welcomed with open arms and old friends continue to renew their acquaintances each year.

Rest assured, fellow alumni, the Satori Magic's still there.
