Recently there have
been court battles to remove the words 'under God' from The Pledge
of Allegiance. I believe after examining the evidence, anyone,
religious or not, that believes following the constitution will
agree. First off, it wouldn't be changing the pledge, it would
be restoring it. You see, the words 'under God' were not part
of the original pledge. They were added in 1964 by the Eisenhower
Administration to distance America from our once allies, the Communist
U.S.S.R. The original pledge had no reference whatsoever to God.
Furthermore, if it infringes on the right to
worship as we choose, please take the following statement into
consideration: The pledge clearly states: "I pledge allegiance
to the flag... one nation, under God..." which implies that
if you are allegiant to the flag, you also believe in God. And
as everyone knows, belief in God is not unanimous among residents
of the United States.
Finally, the most common and widespread argument,
separation from church and state. So if you still believe that
your rights are being infringed, think about people who do not
believe in God and how they are literally having their rights
stripped away from them by being forced to believe in God.
