A Day In The Life

Satori Harold Exclusive

The sun was just breaking over the hills as campers woke up for their first full day at Satori yesterday. Shortly thereafter, they were subjected to their first Tawanka breakfast, complete with bouncing rubber sausage. Stumbling from the PUB multipurpose room clutching their stomachs, the campers went off to their morning classes, ranging from Physics to Acting to Journalism (yess!!) where some campers were overheard chanting, "SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM." Next, the campers progressed to their midday classes. These included, but were not limited to Karate, Medical and Environmental Ethics, and Archaeology. Reportedly, all went well, except for Karate where the instructor didn't show up. At least no one kicked the wall...

Lunch involved crunchy tater tots and chunky turkey gravy, as well as other "delicacies."

The afternoon classes encompassed Your Brain, where campers were allowed to touch a real human brain; Mixed Media Sculpture, where presumably campers sculpted with mixed media; Drumming, and other classes.

When their afternoon classes ended, campers walked to the PHASE for the obligatory annual t-shirt photo. As always, the Jim Black climbing rock was reaching solar-core temperatures just in time for the picture. One camper was heard saying, "I'm so hot I could fry an egg on my butt!"

During rec time, campers participated in a variety of fun activities. Many campers went for a refreshing swim, while others played raquetball or read books. Still others attended the dance class upstairs. The twelve girl dancers were extremely disappointed that they had only two very handsome men to share amongst themselves.

Dinner was next, with manicotti and garlic bread. Reportedly, an autopsy on the manicotti revealed a horrifying cheese tube. However, we at the Harold must give out kudos for the chocolate cake.

Then it was time for Capture the Flag. Campers were divided into two teams, creatively dubbed "Team 1" and "Team 2." Everyone assembled in front of Showalter Hall to meet with their respective teams and don appropriately colored belts. Although the strategies of both teams were rather vague, somehow the red team managed to beat out the yellow team two to one. One of the more interesting aspects of the game was the so-called "death row," a section of the yellow team's prison, reserved for repeat offenders.

The exhausted campers then trudged back to the dorms just in time to meet with their counselor groups. The groups named their individual "Satorities" and then made a creative poster according to that theme with their first-day photographs. Afterward, there was a loud "BOOM!" as all the campers hit their mattresses simultaneously.
