Yesterday at 10:30 students in the poetry class"Where
the sidewalk ends" instructed by Tammy Hovern, gathered in
room 211 to read and right poetry. The session started out with
a few poems and then the studants played a game to get to know
their classmates. The poets also spent time simply talking about
their favorite poetry and scources thereof.
After beoming better aquainted, evryone created
an acrostic poem using a word or thought they had expressed during
the discusion. the poems ranged from colourful wourks of art to
simple black and white poetry, but those who had opted for the
less gaudy style soon had another chance to add color in a fun
excercise where Tammy read to the studants a phrase such as "the
taste of icecream" and they would write the color that best
fit the discription. The studants found that though sometimes
the colors they picked varied widely (black, perriwinkle and yellow,
for instance) there were usualy a high percentage of people who
agreed on a color.
The class was wraped up by looking at a perody
of the Robert Frost poem "stoping by woods on a snowy evining"
Altogether the class seemed to be enjoyed very much by all. "Tammy's
realy nice, she's cool," said Erica Hrder, "and I think
the class is going to be very fun." Sam Hanks seemed to agree
with Erica, "the class was really fun, and I had a good time"
she said.
