Camp Off To Good Start

Starting it’s twentieth
year, Satori is leaving a lot of good impressions on the campers,
and people are practically singing praise.
What do Satori campers really think about
camp so far? Solid opinions cannot really be formed within the
first two days, but campers had plenty to say about food, dorms,
and, of course, Satori Director Mike Cantlon’s opening speech.
The first subject was inevitable: food.
The famed - at least among Satori campers - meals served here
came up in a lot of campers’ comments. Various remarks about
the daily entertainment on campers’ trays drifted from table
to table, from the absorbency of pancakes to the meatless manicotti.
According to Ben Schwyn, Satori campers should try the food
at Washington State University.
“WSU has better food,” Schwyn said.
Cantlon’s comments about “knowing yourself”
affected many Satori campers. “When I’m at Satori, I feel like
reaching out ... not finding out about myself, but learning
about others,” said third year camper Michaela Alden. “I like
to be in the middle of things.”
Schwyn, starting Satori this year, said,
“When Mike was talking about knowing yourself, I’m like, ‘Hey!
I’ve been thinking about that.’”
Satori campers are pretty quick to make friends.
Commenting on his ability to meet people in his second year,
compared to his first year, Steve Porter said, “I like it a
lot better than last year, because I knew a lot of people ...
it was cool.”
Another great way to make friends is by hanging
out with roommates. “I don’t know them [but] they’re nice. I’ve
been teaching them to do origami ... and we hang out,” Schwyn
said.
“[Satori’s] really fun. I like the dorm rooms
and all the activities we do,” said Jeffrey Spraker.
Terra Potts also commented on the dorms.
“I like the different dorms. I like these better, except the
bathrooms suck.”
