Cooper Henderson admitted to going “on a
rampage” Sunday night, committing several acts of vandalism
with another camper. “I don’t think it’s vandalism. It’s freedom
of expression,” Henderson said Monday. He added that the writing
was “flattering.”
The graffiti found on six identification
signs around the dorms, including the second floor women’s bathroom,
offended some campers.
The messages found on hallway signs carried
personal significance for some. One message received by Kaille
Kirkham targeted her fondness of Japanese pop music, saying
“J-POP FART.” Another sign belonging to Julia Goldberg was scrawled
with “NYC SUX.” Goldberg resides in New York.
“I’m baffled,” said Satori counselor and
instructor Tyler Burnet. He seemed upset by the profanity written
on the nametag which hung on his door. Tyler said he didn’t
know who could have done it.
Along with the graffiti found on nametags,
the sign modification on the women’s bathroom door evoked much
discussion. “That is just sick and wrong,” Ayana Croft said,
referring to the sign. She said she was previously unaware of
the situation. Gracie Smith, angered by the sign, later removed
the newly redecorated sign.
Brenan Chambers and Andrew Bodenstein were
unavailable for comment, but have kept their vandalized signs
posted. Kirkham took down her sign after it was damaged by the
Henderson’s markings. Her roommate, Claire Topalian, also removed
her nametag for the sake of protecting her sign in the future.
(Note: This situation has since been
dealt with by the counseling staff. The staff would like to
thank the Harold for their quality investigative reporting.
They would also like to thank Cooper for his (accidental) candor.)
