A Poem: Frightening Ethics

Frightening ethics
My cells move
Therefore I am
But what am I …
Really
The priorities of life
Swirl around in a dumb haze
Never knowing your standing
Point
He says. The students
Still tired from their 4 hours of sleep
Sink lower into chairs
When the conversation lulls
They find they have no contradictors
And sigh
Inwardly
For they need opposition
And just to make things more confusing
A long hand is raised
And those that sit
Awaken
While the teacher washes his chalky hands
The question is asked,
Are plants more important than people?
Silence.
I think, therefore I am,
But do I use those thoughts?
The six Sams do
Broccoli doesn’t.
