Satori Staff 2009

Directors:

  • Mike Cantlon—Satori Camp Co-founder and Co-director. Mike is a teacher for the Spokane School District 81’s gifted education program. He is also an adjunct faculty member of the Education Department at Eastern Washington University.
  • Dr. Bruce Mitchell—Satori Camp Co-founder and Co-director. Dr. Mitchell is a retired professor for Eastern Washington University’s Department of Education. He is a noted researcher and author in areas of creativity, gifted education and multicultural education.
  • *Sara Maleki—Satori Camp Assistant Director. Sara has been with the camp for more than half of its years: first as a camper, then as a counselor and now as Assistant Director. She will be a graduate of Gonzaga University School of Law in May 2009.

Instructors:

  • *Matt Buchholtz - A graduate from the University of Washington with a degree in Cinema Studies, now living in Los Angeles.
  • *Tyler Burnet - A professional dance instructor, and an actor working in Chicago, Illinois.
  • *Ashley Cantlon - Graduate of the University of Portland and works in Portland, OR, as an engineer.
  • Jeanne Case - Professor Case has a Master of Science in Geology, she has worked in Mining, Hazardous Waste, Geographic Information Systems, and teaching at Eastern Washington University.
  • *Nathan Collins - Graduate student in Political Science at Stanford University
  • *Rob Harder - Attended the University of Idaho where he received a BFA in studio art with a history minor.
  • Tammy Hovren - AP/Honors English teacher and Diversity Advisor in the East Valley School District. MA in Curriculum Development from Eastern Washington University.
  • Pat Hagney - Art teacher at Sacajawea Junior High School.
  • Dr. Sidney Kasuga - Professor of Biology at Eastern Washington University; specialist in immunopathology and hematopathology.
  • Jeff Kent - Art and yearbook teacher for White Swan High School, currently serving on the board of the Larson Gallery Guild at Yakima Valley Community College.
  • *Olivia Knouff - Graduate of Arizona State University holding dual degrees in Biology and Biochemistry.  She has fenced with ASU's Salle Diablo Fencing Club for the past 4 years, during which she served as President, Vice President, and Women's Sabre Team Captain.
  • *Chris Mathieson - Executive Director of the Vancouver Police Museum. Is also a past vice-president of the Gifted Children’s Association of British Columbia.
  • Bruce McDavis - 6th degree black belt in Goju-ryu Karate; has been teaching karate since 1975 throughout the Inland Northwest.
  • Cheryl-Anne Millsap - a columnist as well as the home and garden editor at The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Washington. Her personal column, Home Planet, appears each Monday on the cover of the Today section and her column on antiques and collectibles appears in the Home section each Tuesday.
  • Courtney Rowland - a student at Arizona State University, where she studies math education and Japanese.  She traveled to Japan on a  cultural exchange in 2003, and plans to live and teach there after graduating from college.
  • Mark Tietjen - Director of Orchestra and Assistant Director of Bands in the Central Valley School District. BA in Music Education and MA in Percussion Performance from Eastern Washington University.
  • Katie Van Horn - Graduate of Washington State University, now attends University of Washington as a graduate student in the College of Education.
  • Bill Williams - Professor of Psychology at Eastern Washington University.
