Satori Staff 2010
Directors:
- Mike Cantlon—Satori Camp Co-founder and Co-director. Mike is a teacher for the Spokane School District 81’s gifted education program. He is also an adjunct faculty member of the Education Department at Eastern Washington University.
- Dr. Bruce Mitchell—Satori Camp Co-founder and Co-director. Dr. Mitchell is a retired professor for Eastern Washington University’s Department of Education. He is a noted researcher and author in areas of creativity, gifted education and multicultural education.
- *Sara Maleki—Satori Camp Assistant Director. Sara has been with the camp for more than half of its years: first as a camper, then as a counselor and now as Assistant Director. She recently graduated from the Gonzaga University School of Law.
Instructors:
- *Matt Buchholtz - A graduate from the University of Washington with a degree in Cinema Studies, now living in Los Angeles.
- *Tyler Burnet - A professional dance instructor currently working on a MFA in Acting at the University of Georgia.
- *Ashley Cantlon - Graduate of the University of Portland and works in Portland, OR, as an engineer.
- *Nathan Collins - holds degrees in physics and political science and is currently an Omidyar Fellow at the Santa Fe Institute.
- Nathan Edminster - Graduate of Eastern Washington University, working as an IT consultant and software developer.
- Tammy Hovren - AP/Honors English teacher and Diversity Advisor in the East Valley School District. MA in Curriculum Development from Eastern Washington University.
- John Hagney—Teacher in Spokane School District 81; adjunct faculty at SFCC and EWU; 1997 Presidential Scholar Distinguished Teacher.
- Pat Hagney - Art teacher at Sacajawea Junior High School.
- * Jennifer Hegel - Graduate of Western Washington University with an MS in Mental Health Counseling. She works in Spokane as a therapist specializing in child mental health and trauma.
- Dr. Sidney Kasuga - Professor of Biology at Eastern Washington University; specialist in immunopathology and hematopathology.
- Jeff Kent - Art and yearbook teacher for White Swan High School, currently serving on the board of the Larson Gallery Guild at Yakima Valley Community College.
- *Chris Mathieson - Executive Director at the Vancouver Police Museum. Also former president of the Gifted Children's Association of BC.
- Bruce McDavis - 6th degree black belt in Goju-ryu Karate; has been teaching karate since 1975 throughout the Inland Northwest.
- Jake McNinch - studied Romance Linguistics and Anthropology at the University of Washington and is currently working towards a Masters in Linguistic Anthropology.
- Cheryl-Anne Millsap - a columnist as well as the home and garden editor at The Spokesman-Review in Spokane, Washington. Her personal column, Home Planet, appears each Monday on the cover of the Today section and her column on antiques and collectibles appears in the Home section each Tuesday.
- * Emily Powell - Master of Design in Designed Objects from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and BA in Architecture from Middlebury College. Building Urban Gardens and Beekeeping certifications from Garfield Park Conservatory and community garden committee member with Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation in Chicago.
- Joshua Simonson - a Graduate of Oregon State University's Communication, Theater program. He is looking forward to beginning a Master’s program in early childhood education.
- Mark Tietjen - Director of Orchestra and Assistant Director of Bands in the Central Valley School District. BA in Music Education and MA in Percussion Performance from Eastern Washington University.
- Bill Williams - Professor of Psychology at Eastern Washington University.
