Mike Cantlon – Satori Camp Co-founder and Director
Mike has been a teacher of gifted students for nearly 40 years and is currently teaching in the Odyssey Program for Spokane Public Schools. He has served as an adjunct teacher for EWU.

Dr. Bruce Mitchell – Satori Camp Co-founder
Dr. Mitchell is a retired professor for Eastern Washington University’s Department of Education. He is a noted researcher and author in areas of creativity, gifted education and multicultural education.

*Sara Maleki, Esq. – Satori Camp Associate Director
She is a graduate of Gonzaga University School of Law and is a practicing attorney in Spokane, WA. She is totally 25 years old.


Satori Camp counselors are predominantly certified teachers and students in an education program. We also have several former Satori campers who have worked their way into camp counselor positions.


Jessii Arp – graduated from Western Washington University with a BA in theatre arts and music and a MiT from Whitworth. She currently teaches 6th grade English and theatre at Odyssey in Spokane Public Schools. She has a background in opera and musical theatre and cannot wait for Satori to start!

*F. Tyler Burnet – holds a MFA from University of Georgia Athens and recently completed the national tours of West Side Story and Sister Act.

*Ashley Cantlon – Graduate of the University of Portland, where she graduated with a B.S. in Civil Engineering and Minor in Music. Ashley currently works in Portland, OR at Otak, Inc. as a water resources engineer and enjoys playing in a community orchestra on the side.

Josh Cantlon – holds a degree in Biochemical Engineering and Philosophy and has worked in the life science equipment industry for the last 5 years.

Dr. Dana Elder – is a Professor and the Director of the University Honors Program at Eastern Washington University where he teaches and helps deserving students to pay for their college expenses with Honors Scholarships.

RJ Ermola, Esq. – graduate of NYU and Thomas M. Cooley Law School. RJ practices law in Spokane, WA.

Jeffry Finer, Esq. – holds a BFA from Yale and Juris Doctor from University of New Mexico. Jeff works as a civil justice attorney in the Center for Justice. In addition, he has nearly 40 years of experience playing and teaching “Go.”

Dr. Natasha Gintel – has provided psychotherapy to children and families for six years and conducts qualitative research.

John Hagney – Teacher in Spokane School District 81; adjunct faculty at SFCC and EWU; 1997 Presidential Scholar Distinguished Teacher.

Derek Hutchinson – an educator and educational researcher; he wannabe teaches teachers to teach and studies how people learn identity, particularly gender and sexuality.

*Monica Jensen – teaches supplementary English courses, works with ESL kids of all levels, and generally helps students pass their classes. Her grad school plans involve in-group dialectology and cross language analysis of metaphorical prepositions.

*Chase Lake – is a Physics and Computer Science double major at Whitworth University, but don’t let that fool you. He’s been dancing for over 4 years, everything from East Coast swing to Bachata.

*Janessa Lawson – is a Spokane based lifestyle portrait photographer. Janessa received an AAS degree in Photography from Spokane Falls Community College.

David Lott – earned a Chemistry degree from Gonzaga University and has spent the last 20 years working in all areas of fuel cell product development.

*Jennifer Lott, LMHC – is a Mental Health Counselor in Spokane. She earned a M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from Western Washington University and has been co-hosting a weekly radio show on feminism for the past three years.

*Emily Martin – graduate of The Evergreen State College, where she focused on Literature in its Social and Historic Contexts. Emily is working on obtaining a Masters in Teaching degree from the Evergreen State College.

Greg McGuire – Satori’s beloved DJ brings more than 20 years of experience of DJing Satori dances. In addition, Greg works in Computer Sciences at Gonzaga University.

Jake McNinch – studied Romance Linguistics and Anthropology at the University of Washington.

*Emily Powell – has over five years of experience in the commercial toy industry. She is currently a product manager at a toy and game company in Tucson, AZ. Master of Design in Designed Objects from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and BA in Architecture and Italian from Middlebury College.

*Random Powell – is an avid researcher, player, teacher, and officiator of games. He currently holds a career in banking when not gaming.

Jonathan Ramos – a full time professor in the Political Science and International Affairs Dept. at EWU. Received a BA in History with a minor in Government and a MA in Global History from EWU.

Courtney Rowland – Graduated from ASU, received a Fulbright Grant to study math education in Japan. Now teaches math and science at PRIDE Prep.

*Connor Shirley – is a reader for Electric Literature and holds a BA in Middle East Studies from the University of Arizona.

*Charlie Smith – teaches the K-1 Extended Day program at Giddens School in Seattle, Washington. A former Satori Camper and product of the Odyssey program, he is currently an Education major at Western Governors University.

*Sam Thompson – is an Industrial Designer who has worked on everything from the stuff that gets glued on to the front of greeting cards, to architectural features consisting of 720 dinner plates suspended from a lobby ceiling in the topology of Northern Arkansas.

Shawn Tolley – is a composer, music educator, and digital artist working actively in Spokane, WA.

Martin Weiser – is the chair of the Engineering & Design Department at EWU. He is the mentor for the EWU Rocketry club where students build and fly rockets ranging from larger models to high rockets weighing over 70 lbs that fly to well over 10,000 ft.

*Matthew Weiser – a nerdy rock climber who enjoys life and chases his passions, which include comic books and dungeons and dragons.
